Obituary

William Aaron Smullen, 45, of Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. William was born on April 2, 1979, in Amsterdam, NY to Sharon (Mazur) Hausman and the late William G. Smullen Jr.

Will was born and raised in Amsterdam, NY and graduated from Broadalbin-Perth High School, class of 1997. He was a distinguished graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Worcester Campus, where he completed his Doctorate of Pharmacy degree with honors and was inducted into the Rho Chi Society. Prior to his pharmacy degree, he completed his Bachelor's degree in Political Science at Union College in Schenectady, NY, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He was also actively pursuing an MBA through a joint program between Clarkson University and Union College.

In his professional career, Will worked as a pharmacist at Walgreens, where he applied his expertise to serve the community. Beyond his career in pharmacy, he was a certified personal trainer, a role that reflected his passion for fitness and health.

Known for his sharp intellect and quick wit, he was a lively conversationalist who loved engaging in debates with friends and family. His thoughtful insights and sense of humor made him a cherished presence in the lives of those around him.

He was predeceased by his father William Smullen Jr. and his paternal grandparents. William is survived by his mother and step-father Sharon and Philip Hausman; grandparents Leonard and Augustine Mazur; sisters Kimberly (Brian) Baker and Kate (Michael) Mordetsky; step-sisters Maureen (Johnny) Mizenko and Lynn Hausman; step-brother Thomas (Catherine)Hausman; nephew Brady; niece Naomi; fur nieces and nephews Buzz, Gussy, and Bamboo; Aunts Judi (Craig) Mazur, Debi (Richard) Thompson, and Debbie (Larry) Bradwell; Uncles Charles (Dawn) Smullen, Richard (Jan) Smullen, and Dennis (Marybeth) Smullen; along with numerous cousins and friends.

A Christian Mass in Wills honor will be offered on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 10 o'clock at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant.  Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the mass starting at 9am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Massachusetts Pharmacist Association (MPhA) or the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Will.
