Grace Ella Espy
November 7, 1922 — November 23, 2019
Grace Espy, having lived a full and interesting life, passed away on November 23 at the age of 97.
Grace grew up in Portland. During WWII she met and married her husband, Leo. He became a diplomat, and together they lived in Turkey, Egypt, Cuba, India, and Jamaica. As part of his duties, they entertained politicians, locals and visiting celebrities.
After his retirement, they returned to the Portland area. She worked at Portland State Univ. and Lewis & Clark College. Grace developed talents in painting, pottery, jewelry-making, needlecrafts, roller-dance & figure-skating, gardening, golf, cross-country skiing and, especially duplicate bridge, becoming a bronze life master. She was known for her intelligence, style, playfulness and sense of adventure.
Leo died in 1980. Grace is survived by their son Brent, daughter Lynne, daughter-in-law Georgia, and grandchildren Kayla, Alexandra and Dane.
A Celebration of Grace's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at the Oswego Heritage House, 398 10th St, Lake Oswego, OR 97034
