IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vonda Jean
Tietmeyer
April 25, 1934 – March 15, 2025
Vonda Jean Tietmeyer was called home on March 15, 2025 at the age of 90 in Greeley, CO.
Vonda Jean Jeffries and her twin sister Wanda June were born April 25, 1934 in a large tent located at the fork of a spring fed creek west of present day Antioch Road and east of Osage Beach Park, in Kaiser, Miller County, Missouri. The area is better known as the Bagnell Dam / Osage Beach part of the Lake of the Ozarks. They were born to Edward Tolliver Jeffries and Nellie DeGraffenreid.
Vonda Jean along with sisters Wanda June and Phyllis were baptized in the Osage River at Bear Creek in 1950. She attended School of the Osage grades 1 thru 12 and graduated High School in 1953. Vonda Jean and her seven siblings grew up in a small two room house located on two acres which bordered the Lake of the Ozark State Park. They all shared in the chores of gardening, sawing and stacking firewood. Her father Edward was an avid hunter and fisherman always keeping food on the table in addition to his job and mother Nellie kept busy sowing much of their clothing, raising vegetables in their garden and cooking for the family. In their Ozark life the siblings grew up learning strong work ethics, faith in their Lord and developed a strong bond of family unity.
In 1953 Vonda Jean met Clarence W. Tietmeyer, a Crop Duster from York, Nebraska when his small single engine plane experienced engine failure and was forced to ditch in the Lake of the Ozarks near Public Beach #2. He met her at the Ozark Market where she worked while he was "fishing" for his airplane which he was successful at recovering. They married on Dec 8, 1953 at the Lutheran Church in Eldon, Missouri and relocated to York, Nebraska where Clarence owned and operated Agricultural Flying Service.
After the birth of their first son Daniel, they moved to Hereford, Colorado where Clarence continued the Crop Dusting business and through the years the two developed a cattle and farming operation. Scott and Donna were born in Colorado.
Jean was always at Clarence's side through the years beginning as the main ground support for their twenty-five year Ag Flying business. Jean embraced life as their efforts grew into a farm and cattle operation. With each expansion she took on his challenges to learn to drive harvest trucks, operate tractors, feed cattle, and assist with bookkeeping.
In their later years together she was Clarence's constant companion in the shop restoring military jeeps and taking care of him when his health turned. He called her "his Jeanie".
Growing up in the vegetative bounty of the Ozarks, Jean thrived on creating and immersing herself in her vegetable and flower garden surrounded by extensive tree windbreaks. She was known to "sneak" in another tree or flower bed from time to time. She took great joy in sharing her love of gardening with her children and grandchildren. Providing home baked goodies, abundant harvest spreads and home cooked meals brought her as much joy as it did to her family and friends.
Jean was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Clarence went to be with the Lord in September of 2015 at the age of 95. Greeley became her home after Clarence's passing until her death.
Jean is survived by her three children, Daniel Tietmeyer (Jane) of Yuma, CO; Scott Tietmeyer (Paula) of Grover, CO; and Donna (Tom) Erlewine of Broomfield, CO.; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren
Siblings,
June Howser of Eldon, Missouri; Larry (Sylvia) Jeffries of Sandy, Utah; Phyllis Osterly of Camdenton, Missouri; Daisy Brown (Leroy) of Cape Gerardo, Missouri and Jim (Kathy) Jeffries of Greenwood, Missouri.
