Thomas W. Burt, 65, passed away peacefully at his home with his partner by his side of 19 years on January 17, 2025, after a 3-year battle with cancer.
Born on August 4, 1959, in Delmar, NY, he was a son of Kenneth and Marcia (Lang) Burt.
Tom was predeceased by his brother, Erick Burt. Besides his parents, Tom is survived by his beloved life partner, Karen (Russell) Leitt and her daughter, Heather Leitt, who he loved just like his own daughter; sisters, Patricia Willey (David) and Jennifer Burt; nephews, Tyler Burt, Luke Willey (Katie), Mark Willey (Jessica); great nephews, Alex, Adam and Eric Willey and many cousins.
Tom graduated from Bethlehem Central School in Delmar, NY, in 1977. October 1977-1979, Tom joined the United States Airforce, Shaw AFB, in Sumter, SC; where he was a tactical aircraft maintenance specialist, troubleshooting and repairing flight control and landing gear systems. In 1978, he went to Shepard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist, integrating flight control systems (F/RF-4). From 1989-1990 he attended Riverside School of Aeronautics, Utica, becoming FAA certified A/P Mechanic. He went to Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, from 1990-1991 for Aircraft Maintenance Technology.
He worked at various places during his career, including owning a pizza shop during the 90's. He worked for Lansing Flight Support in Latham as an aircraft/ground equipment Mechanic from 2005-2011. In 2012, he started working for Shaw/Draf Tech in Watervliet until his retirement.
He loved to go to many concerts and events throughout his life. Tom met his lifetime partner at the Harley Rendezvous' event which they went to for many years, He enjoyed watching old tv shows, football & the NY Giants, baseball & the NY Yankees and many other sports.
Tom will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In keeping with Tom's wishes, no formal services will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date which will be announced.
Memorial donations in Tom's name can be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, 1232 St. Hwy. 5s, Amsterdam, NY, 12010.
Tom's care has been entrusted to Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville.
