Obituary for Sylvia Ada Auerbach

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sylvia Ada Auerbach, who departed this life on July 30, 2025, at the St Cloud VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Born November 15, 1959, in Akron, Ohio. The daughter of Irwin Auerbach and Jeanette Rambo. She is survived by her beloved children, Joseff Boaz Hilleshiem, and Mary Ellen Hilleshiem. Sylvia's legacy will continue through her adoring grandchildren, Ryder Scott Hilleshiem, Alyana Rae Hilleshiem, and Gracelynn Carol Hilleshiem; children of Joseff and Mary Lynn Hilleshiem who brought her immeasurable happiness. She leaves behind a very close friend, confidant and love Joni Susan Modderman.

An educated woman, Sylvia graduated with an associate’s degree in accounting, demonstrating her love for learning and continuous improvement in her life and career. After schooling, Sylvia chose to serve her country in the United States Army Reserve, where she met her, now ex-husband, Jeffrey Scott Hilleshiem. She served as an E-4 Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic for more than four years, exemplifying her spirit of service and commitment. She was honored with multiple commendations, including the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Lapel Button, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal (1st Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), and Expert Badge (Rifle) reflecting her dedication and excellence. After her military career, she engaged warmly with the community as a postal carrier in La Crosse, Wisconsin for almost a decade, embodying the values of integrity and reliability.

Known for her honesty and humor, she brought laughter and warmth to all who crossed her path. She had a zest for life, with interests in enjoying savory meals, exploring medicinal remedies, elaborating fish tales, and splurge shopping at her favorite stores.

A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held at Recreation Park, located at 435 2nd St NW in Milaca, MN, on Saturday, August 16th at 1:00 PM. We invite all who knew and loved her to gather in honor of the memories we shared. Following this celebration, Sylvia will receive Military Final Salute Honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN, for her immediate family on September 2nd at 11:30 AM.

In this time of sorrow, let us remember Sylvia not only for her life journey but for the warmth and joy she brought to our lives. May her spirit live on in the hearts of her loved ones and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
