Obituary

. Shirley Palmer Vosburgh, 99, went home to the Lord on Saturday, January 25, 2025. She was born on January 1, 1926, in the Amsterdam City Hospital, the daughter of the late Alton J. Palmer and Lena VanKleeck Palmer.

She attended McCleary grade school, Theodore Roosevelt Junior High, and Wilbur H. Lynch High School. In her senior year, the Palmer family moved to Galway Lake, and Shirley attended Galway School District. She graduated in 1943. Afterwards, she worked at Anibal Funeral Parlor while studying a nursing course. She then moved back to Amsterdam and began working for Guebeck Nursing Home, and then the Amsterdam City Hospital where she met her late husband, George Vosburgh. They married in 1948 and built a home together at Galway Lake, where they raised their children Timothy, Jane, and Dan. They then moved to Ext. Steele Ave in Gloversville, where they had a farm, and she was a 4H leader. She also taught piano for many years. Shirley was an active member at the Broadalbin Baptist Church with the music department and youth group. Throughout her life, she cared for 20 foster children.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband George Vosburgh in 2016; parents Alton and Lena Palmer; sister Dorothy Putnam; as well as brothers James and Maurice Palmer.

She is survived by her three children Timothy (Sheree) Vosburgh, Jane Marie Lampkin, and Daniel Clark Vosburgh; sister Betty Cuckoo; brother Edward Palmer; four grandchildren Nicole, Eric, Seth, and Adam; two great-grandchildren Naomi and Kaya Vosburgh; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend Shirley's memorial service on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 1pm at the Adirondack Baptist Church, 1431 State Highway 29, Gloversville, NY 12078.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Adirondack Baptist Church.
