IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sheila Lauder (Mitchell)
Marquis
April 1, 1929 – February 4, 2025
Sheila Lauder (Mitchell) Marquis, 95, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, in Sun City Center, FL. Born on April 1, 1929, in Oak Park, IL., Sheila was a proud first-generation American, born to Scottish parents, John and Agnes Mitchell.
Sheila was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Gene Marquis; her parents; her brother, Ian Mitchell; and her bonus son, Greg Marquis. She is survived by her sister, Gigi Petrie (Jim); her sons, Duncan Marquis (Carol) and Dan Marquis (Jill); her cherished grandchildren, Drew Marquis (Liz), Rachel Marquis (Nolan Rinderknecht), and Cassandra Marquis; as well as her bonus grandchildren, Julie Luchina (Dave) and Richard Carlow.
Before marrying the love of her life, Gene, Sheila was a stewardess with United Airlines, embracing her adventurous spirit. However, her greatest joy and accomplishment in life was her family. She adored her sons and their families with all her heart and found immense happiness in watching them grow. When her children were young, Sheila loved spending time on the water, boating, and watching her boys water ski.
In 1990, Sheila and Gene moved to Sun City Center to be closer to extended family. Together, they loved to entertain, hosting countless gatherings for family and friends over the years. Sheila was especially proud of her Scottish heritage and could often be seen wearing the Mitchell family tartan at family celebrations.
A creative soul, Sheila took great pleasure in her hobbies, including painting and ceramics, filling their home with her beautiful artwork. She also found solace in her beloved "Plant Hut," where she spent hours tending to her plants. Known for her gracious style, warmth, and unflappable personality, Sheila left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Sun City Center Funeral Home. A graveside memorial service is scheduled for Monday, February 17, 2025, at 1pm at Sarasota National Cemetery, where Sheila will be reunited with her beloved Gene.
In honor of Sheila's memory, the family simply asks that you take a moment to cherish time with your loved ones, just as she always did.
