When peace like a river, attendeth my way; When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say; It is well, it is well, with my soul.
SCOTT ALAN SIEVERT
5/5/45 – 11/5/24
Scott was born in Bowling Green Ohio, to Annabell and Otto Sievert. He had one brother, Ben, who passed away in 2011. In Scott’s youth, he was an Eagle Scout, took piano lessons, and was an Altar Boy at the Episcopalian Church. His family took road trips south almost every year. Scott loved Arizona, and attended college at both Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. At first, he wanted to be a Veterinarian, but he soon discovered that he excelled in all of his business classes, and chose to specialize in Financial Risk Management.
Scott worked for the Credit Bureau, owned his own lumber company, and even took several other companies under his wing to turn them around financially. He retired in 2016 after building his own successful financial firm.
Although Sun Lakes United Methodist Church is Scott’s current church home, he spent almost 30 years as an active member of Dayspring United Methodist Church. He led the Covenant Council, sang in the church choir, played in the bell choir, participated in musical fundraisers, and made many connections through the Men’s group, even playing guitar with them.
Scott met Mary in 1994 while singing with the Dayspring Methodist Chorale. They got to know each other well during one of the choir’s European Tours. During an evening adventure, they found themselves lost just outside of Salzburg, Austria and spent half the night finding their way back to their hotel, just the two of them. Two years later, they were married. Scott became the father-figure for her 3 children – Brian, Jerod, and Sarah – and then became “Papa Scott” to his grandchildren – Avery and Ellie. Scott loved every minute of being a family man. Mary is so grateful for the support, wisdom, and positive influence he gave to their family.
Besides family get-togethers and church choir, Scott had some other fun interests. He loved watches and continued to build quite an impressive collection. He loved shoes and hats, and had more than we could ever fit in the closet! He was an expert on trains, planes, and automobiles, and could identify the type by sight, and sometimes by sound, from afar. He sang in Barbershop groups, and also loved singing with the Tempe Community Chorus. Scott was a Mason for over 50 years, belonging to the Scottish Rite Freemasonry. He also served as an active member, and president, of his Rotary Club.
Scott’s personality? Well, could he tell stories! Scott was a crowd pleaser, and could make everyone laugh. He could always fill a silence. And just when you thought the story was going nowhere, Scott would bring it home with a great ending – one with a life lesson, a piece of knowledge, or hilarious humor. But he was also kind and compassionate. He never complained, and always looked at the bright side of things. He was a true role model of someone who accepted everybody.
Scott recovered from major surgery and treatment in 2020, which enabled him to live another 4 ½ years, which we are so grateful for. In true Scott-fashion, he continued to live life to its fullest, enjoying the Church Choir, Thursday Bible Study, the Tempe Community Chorus, his Saturday morning Men’s Group, and celebrating holidays and life moments with his family.
Scott will be missed by many whom he positively affected during his life.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 16, at 1:00 pm, at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church, 9248 E. Riggs Road, Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. There will be a reception with his favorite foods following the service.
