Obituary

Ruth Ann Kilmartin, 77, of Fultonville, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2025. She was born in Amsterdam, NY on January 19, 1948.

Ruth graduated from Fonda High School, class of 1966, and worked for Montgomery County for many years as a receptionist. Ruth was always on the move, she never sat still. She was always present for her family and friends, no matter what the event, cheering them on with a beautiful smile and the best hugs. She would go to every one of her son Adam's truck pulls, and she even participated in one pull, driving the truck herself. She had a lifelong love of Ford Mustangs, the first car she bought herself was a 1969 Mustang. Several years ago she bought a newer Mustang, which she was still driving until recently.

She loved going out to eat and loved visiting friends. She didn't care where she was going, as long as she was in the presence of those she loved. She was a people person through and through, always trying to take care of others and put them before herself. When she did take a few moments for herself, Ruth loved gardening and flowers. She was a phenomenal baker, on both the small and large scale. Her family fondly remembers the many cakes and dozens of cupcakes and cookies she would make for parties, weddings, and events.

Left to cherish Ruth's memory are her longtime companion, Dick Lyons; her son Adam Kilmartin, Jr. (Diahanna) and Diahanna's daughter Valerie; sister Sandy Lais; her longtime best friends Darlene Monk and Annette Jordan; nephew Richie Knudsen; her beloved "grandpup" Pugsie; as well as many cousins and countless friends.

She was predeceased by her mother, Katherine and her step-father Howard VanAvery, sister Ginny VanAvery, and her beloved cat Gracie.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 9:00 Am to 11:00 AM at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Funeral Home, 15 Main Street Fultonville, NY. A service will take place at the funeral home at 11:00 AM, with burial to follow in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville.
