Roslynn Alba Cobarrubias, sister, daughter, aunty, cousin, friend, dot connector, was an incredibly kind and generous human being and trailblazing Filipina American media personality, entrepreneur and advocate for Asian artists. She was born on March 12, 1980 to Maria Evelyn Alba and Vicente Michael Cobarrubias. She passed away at the age of 43.
She was passionate and dedicated to the Filipino American community worldwide, and would spend both her personal and professional life celebrating and uplifting it wherever she could. She started a marketing company, 1587, named after the first documented arrival of Filipinos in the United States. The company’s mission was devoted to empowering artists and brands by promoting and planning events highlighting Filipino culture that connected the worlds of sports, music, TV, fashion, and art, including Filipino Heritage Nights with the Oakland A’s, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Music was her first love. She started her own Third Floor Radio show while studying at Cal State Fullerton, where she was able to share her love of hip-hop through DJ sets, artist interviews, and on-air performances. Later, she helped market MySpace Music across the globe, spending a decade at the company as the Head of Artist Relations & Integrated Marketing. She played a pivotal role in collaborations between acclaimed international artists and rising Filipino talent, helping guide them into the music industry spotlight.
She was proud to be from her hometown of Walnut, California, and always represented the city and her lifelong relationships she made there to the fullest.
Her legacy will continue to live on through her mother, Maria Evelyn Alba; her sisters Rheeza Alba Cobarrubias McMillan, Rachelle Alba Cobarrubias, and Chrystal Alba Fujimoto; and the loves of her life, her nieces and nephews.
