Obituary

Rose Schwartz Truesdell, a lifelong learner and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 93.

Born in 1932 in Gloversville, New York, Rose graduated as salutatorian of Gloversville High School's class of 1949. She went on to supervise the AV Club at Estee Junior High School, where she met the love of her life, Wallace Truesdell, a reporter for the Leader Herald covering the "School Beat". They were married in Roanoke, Virginia, and spent several happy years in Covington before returning to Gloversville to raise their family.

Rose began her career with Sears Roebuck and later found her calling in public service as a deputy court clerk at City Hall, a position she held with pride until her retirement in 1995. She was an active and dedicated member of the CSEA, the Lions Auxiliary, Knesseth Israel Synagogue, and Hadassah.

A woman of many passions, Rose had an enduring love of trivia - especially Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune - and a deep appreciation for the arts. In high school, she played the cello, and in her twenties, she found joy as a member of a local hiking club. Throughout her life, she delighted in theater, travel, and sharing good food with family and friends. Her encyclopedic knowledge of Broadway musicals, folk music, and American standards was legendary among all who knew her.

Rose will be lovingly remembered for her intelligence, quick wit, and generous spirit. She is survived by her beloved husband, Wallace; daughter Deborah (Chris) Conti; and cherished grandson, Benjamin Conti. She was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Louis Schwartz.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose's memory may be made to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York or the Albany Fund for Education. A graveside service will be held at the Jewish Cemetery, 10 Clyde Street in Gloversville on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 11:30 AM. At a later date, a celebration of life will occur.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes.
