Robert Geza Vegvary

January 10, 1938 — September 23, 2024

MAJ (Ret), Robert G. Vegvary, United States Army Special Forces, was transferred to his final duty station on September 23, 2024. Robert was born on January 10, 1938, in Geszt, Hungary. Robert was a professional soldier who considered it an honor and a privilege to serve his country. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate of the ROTC program at Kent State University and integrated into the Regular Army while at Infantry Officers Basic Training at Ft. Benning, GA. Among other assignments, Robert served in the 82nd Airborne Division, as a Ranger Instructor and with both the 1st & 5th Special Forces Groups, to include Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group. Robert's awards and decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, the Master Parachutist's Badge, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. Following his military service, Robert retired from Pinello Elementary School in Widefield School District 3, as a social worker, where he was a champion for the students and provided life-changing experiences outside of the classroom and neighborhood. Robert and his wife Cathy spent summers socializing with friends as members of the Trailblazers Chapter of the Family Campers and RVers.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine; son, Christopher (Dawn); daughter, Cathleen; granddaughter, Hannah Scott (Matt); great-grandson, Colson; sister, Katrina Novak (Louis); and stepson, Christopher Bockey (Sara). Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Vegvary and Vilma (Toth) Vegvary.

Robert’s legacy will be carried in the hearts he touched, in the thoughts he challenged and with the family he waits for.

To respect Robert’s wishes of saying goodbye during favorable Colorado weather, military honors will be conducted at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, in Colorado Springs, Colorado on May 14, 2025, at 11:00AM. A celebration of Robert’s life will follow directly after.
