Robert Rhys Thompson, known by friends and family as Rhys, passed away on January 12, 2018 in Arlington, VA at the age of 20. Born in London, England, he lived most of his life in Richardson, TX. Rhys was loved by many people – especially his mother Michelle, his father Bob, and his sister Travis. From a very young age, Rhys was known for his outgoing personality and stubborn individualism. Rhys pursued a long list of unique, special interests – including Kung Fu/martial arts, piano, baseball, video games, Magic the Gathering, and Asian pop culture. He picked up skills and mastered them with uncanny ease. He was never one for the conventional. He threw a nasty slider from a weird windup, was the best once-a-year ping pong player ever, and routinely expounded on a variety of obscure subjects. He devoured Japanese anime, and loved to explain the arcane details of trading card games to his beloved grandmothers, Grammy and Nana. Everyone who crossed his path loved him. Everyone will miss him. For years Rhys fought mental health and addiction issues, but the pain that he faced is over. The spirit he possessed lives on, carried forever by those lucky folks who spent time with him.
