Robert (Bob) Stohner, beloved father, husband, uncle, and friend, passed away on September 25, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with depression and anxiety. His life was a testament to resilience, love, and adventure, filled with integrity and an unmatched sense of humor.
Born the second of three children to George and Mildred Stohner, Bob was raised in Moorestown, NJ, and graduated from Moorestown High School. He went on to earn a B.A. in History at the College of William & Mary.
Bob’s love of adventure, people, and story-telling led to a life rich in experiences and enduring friendships. Due to his ability to befriend nearly everyone, he is remembered as ‘never having met a stranger in his life’.
In December 1977, Bob met the love of his life, Melanie. Their connection was instant, and the soulmates were married in July 1979. Shortly after, they settled into their home in Moorestown, where they began to build a life and raise a loving family.
In 1994, the family relocated to Boise, Idaho, where Bob was able to share his love for the outdoors with his family. He was passionate about exploring the Sawtooth Mountains of Stanley and embarking on whitewater rafting adventures, including trips on his beloved Middle Fork of the Salmon River.
A devoted father, grandfather, and active member of the Boise community, Bob was always present for his family's school events and sporting activities. Cheering the loudest, his unwavering support and enthusiasm were a source of inspiration for his children.
An adventurer at heart, Bob embarked on several long-distance bicycle rides. His most notable journeys included completing the Transamerica Trail in 2009, a cross-country trek from Boise, Idaho, to Williamsburg, Virginia, and another challenging ride in 2014 from Boca Raton, Florida, to Bar Harbor, Maine. Bob's passion for cycling mirrored his approach to life—full of determination, grit, and the drive to "Keep on Truckin’.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Melanie, his children Jared (and wife Erin), Andrew, and Rachel (and husband Matt), and his grandchildren Aiden, Rylee, Olivia, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother George (and wife Ellen), his sister Judy, his sister-in-law Janet (and husband Tom), and his nieces and nephews, along with a vast network of friends spanning the globe who admired his spirit and heart. His legacy of love, adventure, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family requests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Foundation, in honor of Bob Stohner.
