Obituary

Robert B. Carter, 95, of Wimauma Florida, passed away at his home on December 29, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving children. Born in Olean, New York on June 5, 1929, to Frederick and Winifred Carter, he was the first of seven children. Growing up, Robert (Bob) helped his parents with running their small farm and caring for his siblings. Bob excelled in football and academics, graduating as valedictorian from Allegany High School in 1945. At 17, he joined the military, becoming an army signal corps veteran of World War II, serving with the Occupational forces in Germany. After returning to America, Bob married his hometown sweetheart, Thelma Delores Dutton, on August 27, 1950. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

Robert graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from St. Bonaventure College. He filled several positions in major corporations as a business executive. In this capacity he traveled the world, making many friends from across the globe. In his younger years while living in Indiana, he participated in a number of public service organizations. A devoted family man, he took pride in keeping his home in tip-top shape, gardening, and woodworking.

Robert is survived by three children: Suzanne M. Tayor (Donn), Allen R. Carter (Clarinda), and Cheryl L. Carter; six grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. His beloved wife of almost 70 years predeceased him in 2020. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother: Ruth E. Sorenson, Joanne Landgren, and John F. Carter (Barbara). Two brothers and one sister predeceased him: Richard J. Carter, Paul B. Carter, and Sandra Linderman.

Robert will be remembered for his brilliance, wisdom, kind heart, generosity, patriotism, honor, and dedication to his family. Those who knew him will remember him as a gracious and true gentleman.

Funeral services are being handled by the Sun City Center Funeral Home. Memorial and burial services will be held in Allegany, New York. Internment will be in the family plot in the Allegany Cemetery in the summer of 2025
