Robert Lee Bender

Robert Lee Bender, 74 of Denver Robert Lee Bender was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa where he grew up with his two brothers Dennis and Marlin Bender. Robert's parents, James Leo and Helen Anna Peterson Bender preceded Robert into death. Early in his life Robert was a bail bondsman and later a mechanic in Omaha, Nebraska. Robert served briefly in the Army Guard until a medical discharge. In 1963 when Robert moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked initially as a mechanic and later in 1970 started his business as a cement contractor. Robert told his daughter to start his business he read the only three books that the Denver Public Library had on concrete work and then hired someone, observing his work to learn his trade which he continued until his passing. Robert enjoyed gospel and polka music, his two schnauzers (Gus and Guy), eating at buffets, working on his own vehicles, attending his church, riding his Gold Wing motorcycles, technology, his motor homes and traveling to Branson, Missouri and back to see family and friends in Iowa and Missouri. Robert went to be with the Lord on February 9th., 2017 at 2:19 p.m. Robert was recovering at Lutheran Hospital when he sustained a major heart attack the evening prior. Robert passed peacefully on full life support the following afternoon. Robert was the father of Larry Bender of Hampton, Iowa, Diana Chadwick also of Denver, Ronald Bender of Grand Island Nebraska, Donnie Bender of Columbia Missouri, David Bender of Springfield, Missouri and Roger Bender of Ida Grove Iowa. Robert was grandfather to 19 grandchildren and great grandfather to 24 great grandchildren. Robert was preceded into death by grandson Keith Bender and his parents Helen and Leo Bender. Bod had many friends and the family wishes to especially acknowledge the long-time friendship of Barbara Terrill and Audean Adzima. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, February 18th., at 11:00 a.m. at the Crossings Church, 3501 West 104th Avenue in Westminster, Colorado. Family and friends are invited to attend. Robert Bender will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered at a place he enjoyed at a later date.
