Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Earl "Sam" Bass, who left this world peacefully on March 3, 2025, at the age of 89, in Tampa, Florida. Born on April 18, 1935, in Cassia, Florida, Sam lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication to his family and country.

Sam's legacy is one of unwavering devotion and strength. He proudly served his nation for 20 years in the United States Navy, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His courage and commitment were evident as he served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, embodying the true spirit of a patriot. His military service shaped his character and instilled values that he carried throughout his life.

In his personal life, Sam was known for his kindness and generosity. He was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always putting his family first. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Bass, as well as his sons Sam Bass, Robert Bass Jr., and Ricky Paraz. He leaves behind a legacy of love as he is survived by his children Mike Bass, James Bass, Joyce Bass, and Vanessa Williams. His grandchildren, Jamie, Tony, Cori, Jason, Berna, Marcus, Evee, Robbie, Kieron, and Patrick, will carry forward the values he instilled in them. Sam was also a cherished great-grandfather to Alana, Gabriel, Jalen, Michael, Israel, Nathaniel, Natalie, Eyaan, and Isabella, and he took immense pride in being a great-great-grandfather to his great-great-grandson, Banyan.

Sam's love for his family was matched only by his commitment to giving back to the community. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fisher House Foundation, honoring the service members who have sacrificed for their country, just as Sam did.
