R.J. "Sleepy" Meyers, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, peacefully left this world on February 12, 2025, in Tonganoxie, Kansas, at the age of 75. Born on August 1, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, R.J. was the beloved son of R.J. and Nellie Anderson. He lived a life full of love, dedication, and resilience, and his presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

R.J.'s journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family and his country. He proudly served in the military from 1968 to 1980, a testament to his dedication and sense of duty. After his military service, R.J. embarked on a career as a bricklayer, where he honed his skills and built a legacy that would stand the test of time.

In 1980, R.J. married the love of his life, Mary Meyers. Together, they shared 14 wonderful years filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support for one another. R.J. was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy Anderson and his dear brother Henry Anderson, whose memories he cherished deeply.

R.J. is survived by his four loving children: Jeanine, Ernestine, London, and Greg Anderson, who carry forward his spirit and values. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jane Summers, Ernie Anderson, Danielle Moore, Anna Burgess, Daniel Anderson, Nick Anderson, and Laney Walsh. Additionally, he leaves behind nine adoring great-granddaughters—Leena, Michelle, Beverleigh, Martina, Gretchen, Genevieve, Trudy, Lillian, and Sazie—and seven grandsons—R.J., London, Parker, Brandon, Bentley, Micah, and Nicolat. Each of them was touched by his warmth and wisdom, and they will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

R.J.'s passions were as varied as they were meaningful. A lover of fishing, he found tranquility in the great outdoors, often paired with his strong belief in civil rights. He enjoyed relaxing to episodes of Matlock, cheering for his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, and indulging in DoorDash meals. These simple pleasures were a testament to his zest for life and the joy he found in everyday moments.

R.J. was an active member of several organizations, including AARP, NRP, and AAA, and he never turned down an opportunity to lend a helping hand to his community. His kindness and generosity were well-known and will be profoundly missed.

A funeral service to honor R.J.'s life will be held on February 17, 2025, at 3:00 PM in Tonganoxie, Kansas. The family invites all who knew and loved him to join in celebrating his life and sharing memories of a man who meant so much to so many.
