In Loving Memory of William J. Hind "From Hell's Kitchen to Heaven's Gate"

With heavy hearts and profound love, we share the passing of William J. Hind—devoted husband, father, Pop-Pop, brother, uncle, and friend—who left this world peacefully on April 6, 2025, at the age of 87. His life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and unwavering commitment to those he loved.

Born on May 7, 1937, in New York City's Hell's Kitchen. Bill embodied the true spirit of the city: tough when he needed to be, endlessly loyal, and full of heart. From modest beginnings, he built a life grounded in faith, hard work, and deep compassion. The grit he learned on the streets of Manhattan shaped a man whose strength was matched only by the love he gave so freely.

Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 as a member of the Military Police, during a time of significant social unrest. That sense of duty and justice would remain constant throughout his life.

After his military service, Bill went back to working at Rockefeller Center. What began as a job parking cars turned into an over 40-year career at Rockefeller Center that saw him rise through the ranks to become a property manager. All the while, he was pursuing his college degree at Iona College and, more importantly, building a home filled with love, laughter, and purpose. Bill was the steady heart of his family—devoted to his beloved wife, Bernadette, and ever-present for their four children. His tireless efforts were never about personal gain but about creating opportunity, stability, and love for those around him.

He didn't just teach his children how to work hard, he showed them how to live with integrity, how to dream without fear, and how to show up for the people you love. His legacy lives in them, and in the values, they now pass on to their own families.

To know Bill was to feel cared for. He had a quiet strength, a sharp wit, and a sparkle in his eye that made you feel at home in his presence. Whether he was telling a story, cracking a joke, or offering one of his gentle words of wisdom, you always left the conversation feeling better than when you arrived. A lifelong Yankees fan and a proud New Yorker through and through, he cherished his city—but even more, he cherished his family.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Loretta (Bellanger) and Luke Hind; his brothers, Luke, Robert, and Thomas; and his sisters, Alice, Winifred, and Loretta.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Bernadette; his children, Bernadette McCarthy (Brian), Patricia Stull (John), William Hind (Jennifer), and Timothy Hind (Kerry); and his grandchildren, Timothy, Michael, William, Connor, Thomas, Emily, Grace, Madelyn, Grace, and Caroline. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Doris Augeri and Margaret Connors, along with many nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends, each touched in lasting ways by Bill's compassion and generosity.

The Hind family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who treated Bill with such kindness and dignity in his final days.

A visitation will be held on April 13, 2025, at TJ McGowan Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY from 2-6. A Mass of Christian Burial will at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point, NY on April 14, 2025, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Christian Brothers Foundation 260 Wilmont Rd New Rochelle, NY 10804 or Immaculate Conception Church 26 John St, Stony Point, NY 10986 organizations close to Bill's heart.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the example he set. His presence will be missed beyond measure, but his spirit lives on in every act of kindness, every story shared, and every life he helped shape.

Rest easy, Dad. Your strength, your love, and your legacy will guide us forever.
