IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susanne K.
Kryger
February 3, 1943 – October 16, 2025
Susanne Katherine Kryger (Smith), 82, of Garnerville, New York, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born on February 3, 1943, Susanne grew up and spent her early years on Staten Island before marrying John J. Kryger Jr. Together, they made their home and raised their family in Garnerville, where they shared many wonderful years and lasting friendships. She was predeceased by her husband, John, whose memory she lovingly carried with her for the remainder of her days.
She was the devoted mother of Steven Kryger and his wife Carolyn, David Kryger and his wife Danielle, Andrew Kryger and his fiancée Ruby, and Patricia Espinoza and her husband Paul.
Known affectionately as “PG” or “Purple Grandma,” Susanne was the anchor of her family and the proud grandmother of Kenna, Emily, Jake, Alison, Davan, Jack (East), Jack (West), Colin, Matthew, and Dylan—all of whom brought her endless joy and laughter. She was also a loving second mother to “Lude” and many others who were fortunate to know her as family.
Susanne’s life reflected kindness, faith, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. She enjoyed snow, snowmen, Christmas, her birthday, the color purple, the beach, and of course, chocolate. Deeply proud of her Norwegian heritage, she was known to many as “Ole Reliable,” a title she earned through her loyalty, steady presence, and compassion.
Her faith was central to her life. A devoted follower of Jesus, Susanne was active in her church community and lived her beliefs with grace and gratitude. Gospel music lifted her spirit, and she lived her faith daily through kindness and love for others.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—a good self-help book, baking chocolate chip cookies, Swedish pancakes for dinner, and firmly believing that cake absolutely counted as breakfast. Later in life, she achieved her dream of becoming a registered nurse, caring for others with the same warmth and generosity that defined her life.
Susanne is also survived by her brother Larry Smith and his wife Betty of North Andover, Massachusetts, and their children Erik and Alesa.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Susanne’s life at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville on Friday, October 24, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Chapel Street, Garnerville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Trinity Episcopal Church, Gracepoint Gospel Fellowship Church, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
