Sophie Elizabeth Herska, born November 18th, 1928 in Congers, New York, passed away on Saturday, October 3rd in Good Samaritan Hospital at 91 years old after a long full life. She was a lifelong resident of Rockland County. Sophie was proud of so many things, her German heritage, her strength, her courage, and her zest for life. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Joseph Herska 1980, her son Joseph Richard Herska 2010, and her daughter Diana Schiebel French 2011. Sophie was mom to 12 children, survived by Marie Ryan, Linda Syford, Nancy Garrison, Deborah Herska, Pamela Herska, Elizabeth Coskey, Edward Herska, Douglas Herska, Lisa Hustead, and Jerome Herska. She was gram to 26 grandchildren and was mema to 30 great-grandchildren. Sophie, at all times, was surrounded by her family and loved by them so much. She had many stories to tell and much wisdom to share. Her family was everything to her, and to her family she was everything. She will be deeply missed. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 8th, from 3-7pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 North Central Highway, Garnerville. Masks and social distancing required at the funeral home. Mass will be held on Friday, October 9th, 11:45am, at St. Peter's Church, Haverstraw, followed by a private cremation.
