IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert
Mccarthy
April 8, 1938 – November 3, 2025
Robert Francis McCarthy of Thiells, New York, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025.
Born on April 8, 1938, to Jennie and Cornelius McCarthy of the Bronx, Bob graduated from Rice High School in June 1956 and proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps shortly thereafter. Following his service, he spent a brief time with the NYPD before joining the FDNY in 1962, where he served with honor and dedication for over three decades, retiring as a Captain in 1995.
On June 6, 1964, Bob married the love of his life, Patricia Garvin, and together they built a beautiful life in Rockland County after moving there in 1966. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose steady presence, quick wit, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him.
He especially enjoyed spending his winters in Florida with Patricia and their dear friends, soaking up the sunshine and sharing stories and laughter. A man of deep faith, Bob attended church every Sunday. After Mass, he loved joining his friends at the North Rockland Social Club, cheering on his beloved New York Giants. Those Sunday gatherings were among his happiest times, filled with camaraderie, laughter, and lifelong friendships.
Bob is survived by his loving daughter Mary Jean, his son Patrick, and daughters-in-law Kerry and Annie. He was a proud and adoring grandfather to Michael, Shane, Liam, Kaelin, Brayden, and Nolan.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia of 54 years, his brother John, his son Robert (9/11) and his son-in-law Gerald (9/11).
Bob’s life was defined by love, loyalty, and service — to his family, his friends, his community, and his country. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held at McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 North Central Highway, Garnerville, NY, on Thursday, November 6, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, November 7, at 11:15 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, 21 Cinder Road, Garnerville, NY, followed by interment at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, New York.
