IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nora E.
Castrello
May 21, 1946 – September 18, 2025
Nora (née Cronin) Castrello passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 21, 1946, in Washington Heights, NY, Nora was the cherished daughter of the late John and Bridget Cronin. A proud first-generation American, she carried her Irish heritage close to her heart, with strong family ties to County Cork and County Fermanagh. In 1973, Nora moved with her family to North Rockland, yet her heart always remained in Washington Heights, the place that shaped so much of who she was.
Nora is survived by her devoted children: Jay Castrello (Catherine), Denise Murphy (Scott), and Steven Castrello. She was a beloved grandmother to six beautiful grandchildren: Casey, Allison, Finnley, Tara, Ivy, Vincent and step grandson Jay. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Cronin. Nora was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John James Cronin.
A graduate of Mother Cabrini High School, Nora went on to earn her nursing degree from Misericordia Nursing School. She proudly served as a Registered Nurse for over 20 years, dedicating her career to helping new parents and families.
Nora had a vibrant social life and cherished her Saturday night dinners and Friday monthly lunches and with lifelong friends. She had a great sense of style, always beautifully put together, she took pride in expressing herself through fashion.
Earlier in life, Nora found joy and companionship in her beloved dogs, Spanky and Buddy, who were always by her side and brought her comfort and unconditional love.
Above all, her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren play sports — always in the front row, whether behind the backstop or in the bleachers.
Nora always put others first. Her calming demeanor brought comfort to those around her, and she deeply valued the relationships in her life. She was a truly selfless person, whose kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, September 25th, at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Point, NY. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY.
Nora’s warmth, devotion, and deep love for her family and friends will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
