With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nelson Figueroa Sr., who left this world on July 1, 2024, at the age of 64. Born in the Bronx NY on March 14th, 1960, to the late Manfredo and Ana Maria Figueroa. Nelson was a beloved, husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, but his proudest title was Pop-Pop.

Nelson was a long-time resident of both Haverstraw NY and Walden NY. He was a 20-year veteran of the United States Army/ NY Army National Guard. He retired from the Hudson Valley DDSO after an extensive career working with the disabled. He had a passion for music and was formally known as "DJ Nelly Nel" (on the ones and twos). He was an avid boater, camper, jigsaw puzzler, backgammon champion, professional napper, and loved to put solar lights everywhere.

Nelson was known for his sense of humor and universal friendliness. It was impossible to be in a bad mood in his company. He was an avid sports fan, while they rivaled NY baseball teams, he shared his love for basketball with his wife. He also loved spending his winter months in sunny Florida, cruising and traveling with his family.

Nelson is survived by the love of his life and wife, Beatrice. His children Bill and wife Shannon, Michael, Melissa and husband Brian, Kristi and husband Hector. His brothers and sisters, Maria and wife Robin, Jose, Manny and wife Jamie. His mother-in-law Beatrice "Nan" Palmer. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. Best known as Pop-Pop, Nelson will be terribly missed by his grandchildren, Ava, Kaiden, Colin, and Elaina. He was greeted in Heaven by his grandsons Jace, Jeremy, Jaxon, and Liam. He will also be missed by the members of The First Christian Church of The Good Shepherd.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Ana Ibis, son Nelson Jr., and his father-in-law Frank "Pops".

Services will be held on Sunday July 7th, from 3-7pm, at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home. 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. A Funeral service will be held on Monday July 8th, at 11am at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY with interment to follow at Mt Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nelson's name to the American Cancer Society Donate | American Cancer Society.
