Michael O'Brien, of Pomona, NY, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025.  Born in Suffern, NY on October 30, 1962, to John O'Brien and Kathleen (O'Leary) O'Brien, Michael grew up in Garnerville and lived there for most of his life.

Michael will be remembered by friends and family for the way he could light up a room with his contagious smile, dry sense of humor, and legendary storytelling – it served him well during his successful sales career.  He spent thirty-five years in telecommunications sales, starting with AT&T in White Plains, NY, and ending with Verizon, Pearl River, NY in 2017.  Through hard work and dedication to outstanding customer service, he was proudly honored with many sales recognition awards throughout the course of his career.

Michael graduated from St. Gregory Barbarigo Grammar School in 1976, and North Rockland High School in 1980.  The meaningful friendships he built from his St. Gregory's and North Rockland roots were a great source of strength for him as he passed many major milestones over the years.

Michael is survived by his mother; three siblings, sisters Kathleen O'Brien of Basking Ridge, NJ, and Eileen O'Brien of Garner, NC, and his brother, and best friend, Jack (Mary) O'Brien of Stony Point, NY;  and five nieces, Courtney (Kevin) Burke of Cherry Hill, NJ, Karly (Brian) Corly of New York, NY, Tara (Alex) Baer of Rochester, NY, Shae O'Brien of Astoria, NY, and Kylie Hoffman of Baltimore, MD, and his nephew, Declan Hoffman of Winston-Salem, NC, and two grand-nieces.  He is predeceased by his father.

Michael was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, and he will be greatly missed.

Services will be held for family and friends on Thursday, January 16 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at T.J. McGowan's Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY.  The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 17 at 11:00am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville, NY.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Michael's name to support Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
