IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary E.
Maher
November 10, 1938 – August 25, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished wife and mother, Mary Maher. Mary, of Stony Point, NY, passed away peacefully on August 25th, surrounded by her loving family. Born in the Bronx on November 10, 1938, Mary graduated from St. Barnabas High School. She was married to John Maher on November 12, 1960 at St. Brendan's Church.
Mary was a devout Catholic, serving her beloved parish of St. Gregory Barbarigo as a receptionist for over 40 years. Sacrificing to provide their 5 children with a Catholic education was a priority for Mary and John. Each of their children graduated from St. Gregory Barbarigo School, Albertus Magnus High School, as well as Catholic colleges.
Mary is survived by her twin daughters, Marybeth (Edward) Prendergast, Peggy (Bill) O'Meara, John (Erica) Maher, Kathleen (Jim) Prendergast, and Christine (Dan) McGonigle.
Mary was an extraordinary and beloved Nana to Eddie (Ashley), Carly (Chris), Taylor (Eddie), JT (Ashton), Jen (Vee), Colleen, Jaclyn, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Brenna, James, Jillian and Owen. Shewas proudly given the title of Gigi last year by her first great grandson, Christopher.
Mary's first love was for her husband John and her family. She had a passion for reading, playing Candy Crush on her iPad, and enjoying her Friday pizza dinners at Beni's with her childhood friends from the Bronx, as well as many new friends made along the way. Mary and John also spent over 25 years enjoying their second home in Delray Beach, FL and the many special friends they made there.
Although extremely saddened by her passing, we take comfort in the knowledge that she is now reunited with her mother, Mary Edna, her father, Walter, her sister Joan, and her sister Elaine, who passed a mere 3 weeks ago.
The Maher family will receive friends and family on Fridayfrom 4-8pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, 10:15am at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville, followed by interment at Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Rd., Airmont, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, www.t2t.org , or Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, www.mariafarerichildrens.org .
