Laura Ann Hooghuis, aged 93, passed away peacefully at home on December 1st 2024. Laura was born on April 10, 1931, in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, to Joshua and Mary Peddle. She was a caring mother to five children. A resident of Garnerville and a 1975 master graduate of Fordham University, Laura worked as a probation officer in New City, NY, where she displayed exceptional talent and passion for her profession. She cherished the many thank-you letters she received from her former probationers. Laura always kept her family on their toes with her quick wit and garage sale finds. She was highly intelligent and encouraged her children and grandchildren to become lifelong learners. Laura is survived by her younger sister, Mary Hogan, and her five children: Stephen Hooghuis (Jackie Hooghuis), Larry Hooghuis (Sarah Hooghuis), Karen Hooghuis (Franklyn Laufersweiler), James Hooghuis (Margaret Hooghuis), and Carl Hooghuis (Beatrice), along with many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 from 10am - 1pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. Services will be held at 12:30pm at the funeral home followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY.
