Obituary

Kenneth Asburry Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on September 4, 1935, in Hubbard, Oregon, Kenneth was the son of Kenneth and Gwen Asburry. Raised in St. Helens, Oregon, he carried the values of his upbringing throughout his life.

Kenneth earned his bachelor's degree from Oregon State University, where he met the love of his life, Charlotte. They married in 1959, sharing a life of love and commitment until Charlotte's passing in 1995. Kenneth's dedication to his family and his work was evident throughout his career. After graduating, he served in the Army Corps of Engineers before embarking on a long and fulfilling career with the Port of Portland as a civil engineer.

A passionate tennis player, Kenneth took up the sport in the 1970s and continued to play until the closure of his club due to Covid. His love for tennis endured into his 84th year, reflecting his commitment to staying active and engaged.

Kenneth was also known for his meticulous care of his lawn and his woodworking skills, which he pursued with both joy and precision. A quiet man, he found solace in watching westerns and derived great pleasure from these simple pleasures.

He is survived by his sister, Irene Barnes and her spouse Robert Barnes; his daughter, Linda Asburry; and his grandchildren, Ryan Asburry and Ashton Smith. He was also a proud great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren, and he leaves behind two nephews, his special friend Sharon, and many cousins.

Kenneth's life will be celebrated with a very casual gathering for food and conversation at the Heritage House in Lake Oswego on September 8th at 4 p.m. All are welcome to join in remembering a man whose quiet strength and caring nature touched the lives of many.
