IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daryl G.
Phillippi
November 5, 1938 – November 19, 2024
Daryl G. Phillippi was born in Tarentum, PA on Nov. 5th, 1938. He, his four brothers and sister were raised with more than 200 foster children that his parents took in. After high school, Daryl joined the Navy and then Reserve as a PT Officer 1st Class for more than 30 years.
Having learned the tool and die trade at Oberg's in PA, the family moved to Oregon in 1978 where he worked at Oregon Saw Chain for many years. After retirement, he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and then at OMSI, giving tours on the Blueback Submarine. Until his death, he still queued participants for the tours.
Daryl's main hobby was woodworking, along with growing bonsais. He also started the websites for the VP69 Squadron at Whidbey Island and his Brooklyn neighborhood here in Portland. He was still very involved in the squadron until his death.
He leaves behind his wife Marie after 36 years of marriage, his three children, Kimberly, Robert and Tim, as well as four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Daryl died from a disease which affects the lungs and kidneys. No one has lived 16 years with it, but he was determined to live life fully. Finally, his lungs shut down with many family members at his bedside.
