Obituary

Myrna Lee Henry was born April 13, 1940, in Bedford, Iowa, on a farm in Jackson Township, Taylor County Iowa. She was the second daughter of Hubert Hoover "Bud" Henry and Irene Laverne (Weir) Henry.

She attended a country school near her home and finished her education in the Bedford, Iowa public schools, graduating from Bedford Highschool in 1957. She then enrolled in Northwest Missouri State College to train as a teacher. Myrna earned a degree in Elementary Education from NWMSC. Myrna then taught first grade in Greenfield, Iowa, staying in the same school, same room, and teaching the same grade for 34 years.

At Greenfield, she was within easy reach of her parents so she could visit them on weekends and help with their care. By this time her mother was afflicted with severe rheumatoid arthritis and could not get in or out of bed or a chair or walk without help. Myrna was always the worker bee who took care of domestic duties and helped out whenever needed. While teaching, she went home every weekend to care for the farm and her parents.

After her retirement and the passing of her parents, Myrna came to Greeley, Colorado to live with her sister, Peggy, who was teaching at the University of Northern Colorado. Myrna and Peggy sold the family farm in Iowa and Peggy sold her house in Greeley. They jointly bought a new home in Westridge Farms and Myrna lived there until April of 2025 when she passed away at The Village assisted living on April 28, 2025.

Myrna and her sister looked very much like each other and did everything together. In lieu of trying to tell them apart, people just started referring to them as "The Sisters". They were both members of the First Baptist Church of Greeley and then later, they were members of the Greeley Wesleyan Church, which was renamed Generations Church.

Throughout Myrna's life in Greeley, she was a Sunday school teacher and a loyal Bible Study enthusiast. She hosted a Bible Study at her house for many years. She was also an avid reader and loved doing puzzles. She had a very special love for cats – first for Cassie and Reva then later for Payton, as well as the cats she had while growing up on the farm. These Felines provided her with much joy and entertainment, and she loved them dearly.

Myrna was also a connoisseur in the kitchen and loved to contribute her "goodies" to any who had a need or to share with her bible study sisters. Watching the food channels was a great pastime! She loved to picnic in Rocky Mountain National Park and see the wildlife that lived there. There were many fun picnics and shopping sprees in Estes Park!

Myrna passed away on April 28, 2025. She was 85 years old. Her mother and father preceded her in death. Myrna was a wonderful friend to many and a great adopted aunt for the Blush family. Myrna read avidly and spent much time on her iPad (her big concession to technology). She will be missed greatly!
