Melinda Gayle Jenkins

February 26, 1972 — November 3, 2025

Born on February 26, 1972, in the charming city of Savannah, Georgia, Melinda "Mendie" Gayle Jenkins was a vivacious spirit who captivated everyone with her wit, warmth, and unwavering support. Raised in a close-knit family, Mendie was the beloved daughter of Denise Grooms and a cherished sister to her siblings: Dawn Dail, Randy McMullen, and Tammy Kenyon.

Mendie wore many hats throughout her life, each adorned with a unique flair. She took on the world as the owner of "Let’s Tile," a beloved local business she successfully ran for nearly 30 years. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her devotion to community service. For over a decade, she volunteered and ran Boy Scouts, nurturing countless young minds and instilling values of generosity and loyalty that were hallmarks of her personality.

When she wasn’t busy with work or community service, Mendie could often be found serving with a smile at the Hilton Head Dinner, where she worked as a waitress for 15 delightful years. Her kindness and thoughtfulness made her a favorite among patrons and co-workers alike. Mendie had a knack for making tiny moments special; whether it was remembering a regular customer's order or adding an extra spritz of humor into mundane conversations, she made each interaction feel personal and memorable.

Mendie’s interests revealed a heart that found joy in the exciting and the extraordinary. Mendie was a true Georgia Bulldogs fan, and her loyalty to the team was infectious. Outside of sports, she loved playing softball, running marathons, and indulging in all things Disney. Her home was beautifully decorated for every holiday, as she enjoyed bringing festive joy to her loved ones.

Mendie was not only an extraordinary individual but also a devoted family member. She shared life’s journey with her loving husband, Terry Jenkins, and was blessed to be a mother to David (Bonnie) Jenkins, Christy Miller, Kelli Jenkins, Kyle McMullen, Eric Jenkins, and Bryan McMullen. Her legacy is further enhanced by her role as a cherished “Mimi” to Tyler (Elissa) Miller, Will Jenkins, Brianna Miller, Dahlia Jenkins, Keira Rodriguez, and great-grandmother to Zayne Jones and Tucker Miller. Her family was her pride and joy, and the warmth of her love will live on in each of them.

Mendie passed away on November 3, 2025, in Hilton Head, SC, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and incredible life lessons. A celebration of her life will take place at Christ Lutheran Church on November 22nd at 10 a.m., followed by a family and friends service at the Oakland Island Wildlife Center on December 13th at noon. Those wishing to honor her memory can send flowers to the Hilton Head service.

In every way, Mendie fulfilled the traits she held dear—she was generous, loyal, considerate, honest, and kind. Her spirit, imbued with humor and love, will forever be cherished by those lucky enough to know her. As we reflect on her vibrant life, let us remember her not for her absence but for the profound presence she was—a true gem in the heart of all she met.
