Obituary

Mary Lou Clemons Belknap, 74, of Gloversville, New York, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 01, 2025 due to a chronic illness.

Mary Lou was born in Gloversville, New York to Harry and Esther Clemente Clemons on June 23, 1951. She was the third of five children and youngest daughter. She was a 1970 graduate of Gloversville High School. Mary Lou and Brian Belknap were high school sweethearts. They were married February 27, 1972. During their 53 year marriage they made many memories & raised their three children together, Brian, Heather and Scott.

Mary Lou enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, including bowling & watching sports. She especially loved spending time at their camp on Lake Ontario fishing with family & friends.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister and friend.

Mary Lou worked at several local businesses over the course of her life including Grandoe Gloves, Decca/MCA, Halo Optical Products, Taylor Made, New York Lunch, as a school aide, and a hairdresser.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Trisha) Belknap of Gloversville, NY, and daughter, Heather (Jerrad) Catlin of Johnstown, NY; five grandchildren, Gabriella Belknap, Bryen Belknap, Charlotte Catlin, Grace Belknap and Tyler Belknap. She is also survived by her siblings, Harry Clemons and Bruce Gonyo of Palm Harbor, FL; Stephen (Karolee) Clemons of Duanesburg NY; Timothy (Lisa) Clemons of Conway, SC, and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was pre-deceased by her parents, son, Brian Belknap, in-laws, Perley and Elizabeth Belknap, sister, Jo Ann Barna and several aunts, uncles and cousins from the Clemente, Clemons and Belknap families.

Friends and relatives are invited and may call from 11:00 a.m until 12:00 p.m. on July 9,2025 at Betz, Rossi Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 Noon. Mary Lou will be cremated, and burial will occur at the discretion of the family at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, N.Y.
