Lorena M Gomula-Stearns

Known by many names: Reen, Rena, Lori, Gypsie and Mom, Lorena M. Gomula-Stearns, of Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 5, 2025 at her home. Born in Amsterdam on March 22, 1947, a daughter of the late Doris and George Gomula. She lived in Amsterdam all her life and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.

Lori was employed by CV Holding Co. in Amsterdam as an administrative assistant for over 36 years.

She leaves behind her children, Michele Hayes, Patrick Stearns, George Stearns, Michael Stearns and grandchildren, Andrew, Brittany, Robert, Vaughan, Christian, Anthony, David, and Shawn Stearns.  She was pre-deceased by her husband Michael Stearns.

She enjoyed traveling with her friends with the Inman Center in Amsterdam. She also enjoyed baking, reading and making everyone’s life happy. She knew when everyone's birthday was and was known for being fashionably early to any event. Lori almost never had a bad word to say about anyone and was an eternal optimist right up to the very end of her journey on this Earth.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 1:00PM at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam with The Very Rev. O Robert DeMartinis E.V. presiding. Private interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral service on Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral Home.
