IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry Paul
Wilkerson
February 8, 1943 – March 24, 2025
Larry Wilkerson, 83, of Greeley, CO passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. He was known as an avid outdoorsmen and hard worker, and his humor, quick wit, and sarcasm were legendary.
Larry was born in Philadelphia, MS on February 8, 1942, and attended Meridian High School. In spite of a difficult childhood, Larry was able to overcome many hardships and raise his own family in a stable and loving home.
Larry was a hard worker who dedicated his life to supporting his family. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union of America for 50 years, and he traveled the country helping build iconic structures such as nuclear disarmament facilities and professional sports arenas.
After retiring, Larry settled into life in Kanorado, KS. Larry served on the town council for many years. He was a volunteer firefighter for 12 years, where he became a trained and certified weather spotter for the Sherman County Fire Department. Anyone who didn't have power, was getting ready to move, or needed a little food could count on Larry to be the first to show up and help. For many years Larry was a fixture in his community before moving to Greeley to be closer to his family.
Many of Larry's hobbies brought him outside. He loved hunting turkeys, pheasants, and doves, bass fishing from the shore or a boat, gardening, bird watching, and his hunting dogs. Once, he proudly won a Big Fish Award in a tournament at Lake Powell. Other hobbies included metal detecting and coin collecting.
Larry was also an enthusiastic sports fan. There was no one who loved baseball more than Larry, particularly the Atlanta Braves. And a peek inside the duct work of the Kingdome in Seattle would illustrate his support of the Denver Broncos.
Although he was not big in stature, Larry's larger-than-life personality would take over any room he entered. Those who knew Larry best will remember him for his sense of humor. Larry's jokes and sarcasm continue on every day through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother Ronald Wilkerson, sisters Sylvia Zirlot and Glenda Hernandez, and his beloved son Larry Paul Wilkerson Jr. Larry's legacy lives on through his wife Sherry Wilkerson, daughters and sons-in-law, Victoria and Ken Edwards Sr. and Kathy and Mike Goodall, his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Bob Olmstead, and his brother Donald Wilkerson, as well as the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren he adored.
A viewing and memorial service will take place at Adamson Life Celebration Home in Greeley on Monday, March 31, from 10 a.m.-noon with a lunch reception to follow. An additional memorial service will be held in Kanorado, KS this summer with details to come.
