It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Kirk William Baumes, aged 50, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at his home in Stuttgart, Germany. Kirk was born on March 18, 1974, in Oneida, NY, to Stephen and Gail (Ireland) Baumes.
A 1992 graduate of Broadalbin-Perth High School, Kirk continued his studies at Fulton-Montgomery Community College before dedicating himself to service. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1995 to 1999 and later as a consultant with the armed forces. At the time of his passing, he was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity online at Utica University.
Kirk's distinguished military service was recognized with numerous accolades, including the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Training Ribbon, Armed Forces Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NATO Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Maintenance Basic Occupational Badge, Air Force Longevity Service Award, and the Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award.
A true adventurer at heart, Kirk's love for travel took him across the globe. He called many places home, from New York to Germany, Hawaii, Italy, England, Utah, Mississippi, California, and Maryland. When he wasn't working at new destinations, Kirk enjoyed playing World of Warcraft, snorkeling, scuba diving, and indulging in his passion for film and television. He was also a connoisseur of fine whiskey and had a particular fondness for dark chocolate.
Kirk is survived by his father, Stephen W. Baumes (Maggie); mother, Gail I. Baumes; sisters, Stephanie J. Ferlazzo (Christopher) and Carrie H. Konwisarz; nephew, Frederick Walsh, Jr.; niece, Brittney L. Ferlazzo; former wife, Andrea Baumes; girlfriend, Snober Sohail; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends and colleagues who were like family to him, spanning states and continents. Kirk was predeceased by his stepmother, Daniella P. Opela.
An interment service to honor Kirk's life will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871, on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
