John DeLuca, 85, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Schenectady Center.
Born on June 23, 1939, in Celle Di Bulgheria, Italy, a son of the late Daniel and Maria (Guida) DeLuca.
John was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1963-1965. He worked for the City of Albany and Joe's Market for many years. He loved to garden and play cards. John will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and heart of gold. He was a member of the St. Angello Club. Most of all, he loved his family and grandchildren, he would visit them as often as possible and attended school sports.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Verteramo, whom he married on June 25, 2007; children, Maria Westerling (Brian), Antonietta Barboza (Carlos) and Daniel G. DeLuca (Christina); brothers, Frank DeLuca (Rose), Vincent DeLuca (late, Sophia), Dominic DeLuca and Neil DeLuca (Nicole); grandchildren, Alana and Gianna Westerling, Giovanni and Mianna Barboza, Estella, Liliana, and Lorenzo DeLuca; sister-in-law, Carmie DeLuca; stepchildren, Christina Cowles and Anna Traver (Dave); step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by his infant son, Daniel DeLuca; brothers, Michael DeLuca and Joseph DeLuca.
Calling hours for John will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 10am until 12pm at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will follow at 1pm at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50-52 Cornell St., Amsterdam with the Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant. A private burial will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 1003 Loudon Road, Cohoes, NY, 12047.
