Johann Franz Meier passed away peacefully at his home in Littleton, Colorado on Sunday, September 22, 2024.  He was born on June 16, 1935 in Munich, Germany.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Klara and Johann Leonhard Meier and an infant brother, Dieter.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cara; three cousins in Germany and many nieces and nephews in-law in America.

During Franz's youth in Germany he was an apprentice in electric motor rewinding and repairing.  He immigrated to America in 1955. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and being stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado introduced him to the mountains and the wonderful skiing that he enjoyed.  He earned his high school equivalency while in the military.  Later, he attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Colorado at Greeley, Colorado.

His employment through the years was in many areas, namely: assistant buyer at the May D&F Department stores; freight forwarder at the Dextor Hysol Company in Germany and international freight forwarder at the Johns Manville Corporation in Littleton, Colorado.  Eventually, he opened his own business, Franzl's Va-Cu, Sales and Service.  During his retirement years he worked at the Highlands Ranch Community Association.  He is best known for his German dance band, "Die Weissblauen Enzianers" that entertained for almost 30 years throughout the Denver area and neighboring states.

An event with the theme "Remembering Franz" will be held on Sunday, October 20 at 1 P.M. at the Lakewood Country Club, 6800 W. 10'th Avenue in Lakewood, Colorado 80214.
