Jeri Meschelle Wingo

Jeri Meschill Wingo (Wilson) was born June 19, 1960 to the union of Mary and Jerry Wilson in Buffalo, New York. She moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in December of 1963. Jeri attended Sigsbee Elementary School, Iroquois Middle School, and Ottawa Hills High School. She was a member of True Light Baptist Church. She loved modeling, dancing, and acting. At 24, in pursuit of her dreams, she and her two daughters moved to Los Angeles, California. Jeri worked in administration for several companies and finally for The City of Santa Monica in transportation management. She was president of the Municipal Employees Association. She was also a poet for the Anansi Writers’ Workshop at The World Stage in Leimert Park. As a lover of books, she volunteered at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books for the past 25 years. She was also known as The Button Lady in Leimert Park, where each Sunday for the last several years she would sell handmade buttons, featuring a variety of causes and taglines. Her acting credits include commercials, independent series, and films. In March 2022 she won an award for best acting duo for her role in KXNG D.O.P.E. at the Indie X Film festival. Jeri Wingo departed this life on September 27, 2023 due to a battle with cancer . She is survived by two daughters, Brande Meschelle Wingo (Castle Rock, CO) and Blair Marysa Linne (Portland, OR). Three grandchildren, Sage, Maya, and Ezra Linne. Her son-in-law, Shai Linne. Her sister Marsha Hooks. She is preceded in death by her son, Chase Austin Wingo (1995), her parents Jerry (1969) and Mary Wilson (2019), and her brother Kenneth Austin Wingo (1998).
