IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeffrey J.
Hoag
January 13, 1959 – November 23, 2025
Gloversville - Jeffrey J. Hoag, 66, formerly of Valley Falls, died peacefully Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Albany Medical Center hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born in Samaritan Hospital in Troy on January 13, 1959, he was the oldest of four children, born to the late Joseph and Judy (Clum) Hoag. Jeff was married to the love of his life, MaryLou Heimer Hoag, for 39 years, who predeceased him in 2021.
Jeff was a 1977 graduate of Hoosic Valley Central School. After graduation, Jeff worked for a short time at the paper mill in Greenwich. After working for Tri-State of Troy, Jeff spent about ten years at Golub Corporation in Schenectady working for Price Chopper as a Field Service Technician before he left to work for the Hoosic Valley Central School District as a Systems Administrator for 22 years, retiring in 2021. Jeff cherished the lifelong friendships and memories he made as a kid growing up in Valley Falls to the friendships he built throughout his working career.
Jeff was an avid listener of music. He really enjoyed the Beatles, as well as lots of 60's and 70's music but shared a strong passion for Alternative Rock music from the late 90's and early 2000's. He spent many nights on the road for Price Chopper in the 90's listening to 102.7 WEQX. Years later, he would continue to spend many long nights listening to WEQX once he was working at the school district. It wasn't uncommon to catch him blasting music while he did dishes or worked outside. Listening to music was a huge part of Jeff's life.
He also enjoyed trains, his knowledge of anything to do with trains was deep, especially if they had any sort of connection to the Capital Region.
Jeff grew up a St. Louis Cardinals fan and became an "adopted" Yankees fan when he met MaryLou and got to know the Heimers. He enjoyed NASCAR, as well as Rangers and Sabers Hockey. When his sons were in school, Jeff enjoyed coaching house league soccer and then continued with modified, JV and up to varsity as the boys grew. Many of the players were very fond of Jeff.
Jeff was active in MaryLou's GHS Class of 1977 fundraising efforts to support scholarships and also created a scholarship in memory of MaryLou, to be awarded to a graduate at Gloversville High School. He enjoyed watching Drum and Bugle Corp. competitions, his bowling league, being a member of the Concordia Club, and spending time with his dogs, Tasker and Bennett. In his retirement, Jeff appreciated the time he spent meeting friends for lunch and having coffee with his neighbors. To say he was a Buffalo Bills fan was an understatement. Jeff, his family and friends have attended games and cherished the comradery of tailgating before the game.
Jeff is survived by his children, Jason Hoag and Christopher Hoag (fiancee Katelynn Benson). In addition to his sons, Jeff is survived by his sisters and brother, Jody (Ken) Luskin, John (Michelle) Hoag, and Joy Keck; mother-in-law Harriet Heimer; in-laws John and Connie Heimer and SuAnn Murray, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jeff enjoyed spending time getting together with family for birthdays and holidays. He really enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews play sports when they were younger and then years later got to watch their kids play sports.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A service will take place at 12 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, where Jeff will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife MaryLou. Please wear your favorite team sports attire or simply dress casual, as it is what Jeff would have wanted.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions in Jeff's name may be made to the MaryLou A. Heimer Hoag Scholarship Fund c/o John Strang at 12 Warren Avenue Troy, NY 12180 or The Oishei Children's Hospital of Buffalo Patricia Allen Fund.
Jeff wanted a lasting memory to be of him with a 12 pack of Bass Ale between his legs enjoying a drink, playing pitch with friends and family.
Be Good, Do Good, God Bless and Go Bills.
