IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James M.
Vosko
May 7, 1946 – January 5, 2025
James M. Vosko Sr., 78, of McKay Road, Amsterdam, New York, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025 at the Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. James was born on May 7, 1946 in Amsterdam, New York to the late Stephen and Helen (Wilczynska) Vosko. He was a lifelong area resident and he graduated in 1964 from the St. Mary's Institute.
Jim first worked for Wills Builders in Minaville, and later he was employed as a Union Carpenter for Union Local 370 in Albany for 30 years until retiring November 1, 2000. Earlier in life Jim raced cars at the Fonda Speedway and enjoyed ice racing while winning numerous trophies along the way. He loved carpentry, and he built two homes with his wife Lynn. Jim was always doing something with his carpentry skills, and also worked on cars and trucks with his sons. Jim was a "Jack of all trades" and was always ready to help anyone in need; he was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back, and expected nothing in return. His personality would light up a room and he lived his life to its fullest.
Camping was a passion for Jim and his family, they especially enjoyed visiting Lewey Lake every summer. He also enjoyed jeep riding in the woods with his family and friends, and taking care of his beloved cats. Jim always loved going out to dinner with his wife and spending time with their family.
Jim was a good man, who contributed so much to so many lives. He was a hard worker, a hell raiser, and a jokester, and he will be sorely missed by those he loved. The next time you find yourself enjoying a beer, be sure to raise a toast to Jim!
On September 18, 1971, Jim married the former Lynn B. DeForest, with whom he has shared the past 53 years. He is also survived by his children, Amber L. (Brian) Misavage of Ballston Spa, James M. Vosko Jr. of Perth, and Seth M. Vosko of the Town of Amsterdam; his grandson, Ethan T. Misavage; his brother, Fr. Richard S. Vosko; his sister, Bette A. (Tom) Mohsinger; as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Aside from his parents, Stephen and Helen, Jim is also preceded in passing by his brother, Stephen J. Vosko Jr.
Services will be held privately, at the convenience of Jim's family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1003 New Loudon Road, Suite 201, Cohoes, NY 12047 or to the Montgomery County SPCA, 1232 State Highway 5S, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
