Herman L. Abrams was born on July 28, 1963, in Toledo, Ohio to Lora Abrams and Dr. Alexander Abrams. He was the middle brother to Tony and Dana. Herman also known to his family as “Bunny”, grew up in St. Paul and attended the St. Paul Public Schools.
He has always been an enthusiast for sports. In his junior high days, he was the school mascot the “Green Machine” winding up the crowds at Ramsey Junior High. You would have thought it was a professional game. He brought that energy everywhere he went. His mom often said, “he was like a bull in a China shop.” His energy was infectious.
Herman moved between St. Paul, MN and Toledo, OH before making the Twin Cities his permanent home. But while in Ohio, Herman obtained his associate’s degree from Ashland University. When he returned, he married Sandra Lewis. She and her children became his extended family. He and Sandra remained the closest of friends after they separated.
Family was very important to Bunny. He adored his children, and nothing made him happier than being a father. Equally, he loved his wife April fiercely. Excited to begin their lives together, the two were married on September 2, 2023. Their love was tried and true and will always remain. If you were to ask Herman, his wife and kids were the best part of him.
Besides the love for his wife April and kids, he loved his friends and the Vikings World Order (VWO). It was there that he met the love of his life, April. As a devout member of the VWO Marine Division, Herman acquired another name, “Papa Smurf.” He was a fixture at MN Vikings home tailgating. It brought him joy to be with his “people” during game time. If he called you a friend, then you too had become family. It was with the VWO that he participated in many charitable events like the Polar Plunge, Veteran Homes and the Ronald McDonald House.
Herman is preceded in death by his mother Lora Abrams, father Dr. Alexander Abrams, brother Anthony “Tony” Reed and niece Don-Shay Hardy.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife April; children Kendall, Rachel, Anthony, Reed, Paxton and Finlay; sister, Dana; Cousin Gary Williams, Sister-in-law: Gina WalkerReed, Nieces; Ariane, Marci and Tomyra, Nephew: Shaun (Talia), Bonus brothers; Wayne Liggons and John Dorsey, the VWO and a host of other relatives and friends. We loved him, but God loved him best.
