Love lives on: Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart.
Mrs. Hattie Ann Hawkins-Ellison, 86, of New York City (Castle Hill Projects) passed away at Morningside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, April 21st, 2025. She was born to the late Rodie Mcphaul Hawkins, and Walter Hawkins Sr. Mrs. Hattie attended Laurinburg Institute for her high-school years, and later went on to work in the home health field. Mrs. Hattie was a fireball (hell raiser) to the people who knew and loved her, Mrs. Hattie loved to help people, loved being around her friends, and family, and sure enough loved to party "like a rockstar". For those who knew Mrs. Hattie, you know she brought the smoke.
Mrs. Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Samuel Hawkins, two sisters: Bessie May, and Rodie Mae, and a son Gregory Ellison.
Surviving are her daughters: Deborah Hawkins-Campbell (Mitchell) of Laurinburg, Wanda Ellison-Moorer (Gene) of Greensboro and her son: James Ellison of New York City. Also surviving is her sister: Katttie Quick of Laurinburg, and brother: Walter Hawkins (Rosie) of Georgia. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Shaheem Ellison (Chauntae) of Greensboro, Shamekqua Ellison (Demetrius) of Greensboro, Shanazia Ellison of Greensboro, Shahmiere Ellison-Moorer (Amari) of High Point, Aaliyah Ellison-Moorer of Greensboro, Kenta Campbell of Raleigh, Alonzo Campbell (Denise) of Arizona, and Montrall Campbell (Katora) of Fayettevill . Also surviving are her great grandchildren: Ariana Smith-Ellison, Isaiah Jones, Tatiyana Smith-Ellison, Shanthazia Ellison-Turnage, Noah Jones, Shayla Ellison-Turnage, Neriah Jones, Charisma Ellison, and Shanell Ellison-Turnage, Christopher Campbell, Kayden Campbell, and Peyton Campbell. Also surviving are numerous nieces, and nephews.
A visitation honoring Mrs. Hattie aka BIG HATTIE'S life will be held at R.G. Ortiz Funeral Home at 2121 Westchester Ave, Bronx NY from 3:00-7:00 PM on Saturday May the 3rd 2025. Follwing the visitation Mrs. Hattie will be cremated and her remains will be in Laurinburg NC.
