Glenn William Whipple

June 2, 1948 — October 9, 2025

Glenn William Whipple was born on June 2nd, 1948 to Marvin Ivo Whipple and Norah Dororthy (Plumtree) Whipple, in Detroit, Michigan. He was the second of four children. He grew up in the town of East Detroit and went to Cass Technical High School. After high school, he went to Lawrence Technical University to study drafting and joined the U.S. Army in 1969. He was stationed at the U.S. Army base in Arlington Heights, Illinois where he met his now ex-wife Susan (Brockmann) Evans. They were married in Rolling Meadows, Illinois on Aug 29th, 1970.

They welcomed their first son, David, in Detroit, Michigan before relocating to Arvada, Colorado in 1972. Glenn and Susan went on to have four more children; Bonnie in 1974, Daniel in 1976, Matthew in 1977 and Benjamin in 1980. Glenn remained in Colorado until his death, following a short battle with Lymphoma

He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his three siblings; Robert (Sally) Whipple, of Canton, Michigan, Donna (Jack) Van Acker, of Flat Rock, Michigan, and Curtis (Connie) Whipple, of Nashville, Tennessee, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He leaves behind his five children: David Whipple, of Denver, Colorado;  Bonnie (Lior) Dolgonos of Anchorage, Alaska; Daniel (Kristen) Whipple of Centennial, Colorado;  Matthew (Lisa) Whipple - Englewood, Colorado, and Benjamin Whipple of Denver, Colorado, as well as his six grandchildren, Sam, Natalie, Owen, Eleanore, Levi, and Jordan.

Eulogy

Glenn was a complex man who lived on his own terms. Willful as the day was long and defiantly independent, he made no apologies for who he was — and somehow, that was part of his charm. He was not easy to sway, rarely followed the crowd, and believed in doing things his way, even if the road was uphill both ways.

But beneath that tough exterior he was a deeply creative soul — a dreamer, a thinker, and someone who saw the world a little differently. He had ideas that stretched beyond the ordinary, and even if not all of them were realized, they came from a place of true passion and imagination. He was always coming up with new inventions and ideas; always in pursuit of a better way. He taught those around him, especially his children, that it's okay to be different, to question everything, and to chase wild ideas — even if they scare you.

Glenn was extremely handy and could fix just about anything and he passed along these skills to his children. He was always willing to help his neighbors or friends with a construction job or repair around his apartment building, where he was also recognized for this talent by the community newspaper (he was quite proud of this!).

An avid reader, Glenn was also an author! He self published his book “Garden of the Gods” in 2008. A work of fiction, his book was a metaphorical commentary on Glenn’s spiritual beliefs. He also loved music and could often be heard singing songs from the 60's/70's or making up his own tunes to amuse his five children.

Glenn was known for his charm and wit. Though not a man of many words, he was always at the ready with a clever quip or or teasing pun. He carried this charisma through to the end, even joking with nurses and doctors during his last days.

Most of all, he loved his kids fiercely. Even when words failed him, his love was never in question. His belief in his children was unwavering, and in his own unique way, he was always cheering them on — often stubbornly, occasionally loudly, but always from the heart. Glenn’s spirit lives on in each of his children and grandchildren — the defiance, the creativity, and above all, the love.

His laugh, his rants, his dreams and even his arguments will be missed. He was our dad and there will never be another quite like him.

Rest easy, Dad. We love you.
