Obituary

It is with great sadness to announce that Geery Louise Cordova, 75, after a courageous battle with lung cancer, passed away on January 19th, 2025 at her home in Pierce Colorado.

She was born on March 26, 1949, in Ft Collins, and was raised on the family farm east of Pierce.   She attended Pierce Elementary School and graduated from Highland High School in Ault.  Geery was very active while in high school. She was active in 4-H, winning several blue ribbons and was a member of several high school clubs, such as Pep Club, National Honor Society and FHA.

Geery married John Cordova in December, 1971 at t Mary's Catholic Church in Greeley.  They were married for 53 wonderful years.  They first met while they were both attending UNC.  Once John graduated from UNC and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force, he was stationed at Big Springs Texas, at which time he asked Geery to marry him. They were stationed at several bases, but their most memorable was the 2 years spent at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. They were there when the Vietnam War ended.  Geery worked as a volunteer at the hospital when the POW's started arriving.

Geery was a true woman of faith, and her belief in God was unwavering.  She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Pierce.  She held many positions, her favorites being a part of the UMW, a Sunday School teacher as well as being the music/choir director.  She loved music and found joy in playing the piano and organ for the congregation.

Geery's love of children and teaching were a cornerstone of her life.  Her lifelong passion was to be a schoolteacher.  Once both of her boys were both in school Geery went back to UNC and earned her teaching degree.  She taught at the Highland School District RE-9 for 23 years.  She touched the lives of hundreds of kids, and loved them all, even the ornery ones.   She always saw the good in each student, but most importantly, always encouraged them to do their best.   She cared for them as a whole person, teaching not just book lessons, but also life lessons.

The greatest joys in Geery's life were her family, most importantly her husband John, 2 sons and wives and 5 grandchildren.  They all were truly the loves of her life.

Geery was preceded in death by her father, Frank Arthur Batman, her grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her mother, Mary Lou Batman, her husband John, son Joel  (Ronda) of Johnstown, granddaughters Mya (Jovan), Arynn (Gio), son Jason (Katie) of Windsor, granddaughter Jasynda, grandsons Jaron and Kyler, sister, Carmen, brothers Richard and Gail (Jeanne), and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
