Gail Ellen Lorenz (née Inskeep), PhD, of Elk River, MN has passed away at 87 on February 25, 2026. Gail Lorenz was born April 12, 1938, Bluefield, West Virginia to Ellis Eugene (Gene) Inskeep and Ruth Inskeep (née Swallow).
Gail answered to nicknames of Dr. Lorenz or GG - short for Grandma Gail. She had a big heart across her many accomplishments. She graduated from Carleton College in 1960 with a BA in Psychology. She later continued at the University of Minnesota earning her Masters degree and PhD in Educational Psychology in 1990. She shared her wisdom in the fields of methodology, assessment, and education. Gail tutored PhD candidates on their dissertations and provided consulting for many businesses.
Gail’s boundless energy was a gift to the choir at Saint John’s Episcopal Church in St. Paul. She also taught piano lessons and tutored her many grandchildren. You could often find her at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival scoping out dragon-themed art or at Disney World with family.
On January 31, 1959, Gail Ellen Inskeep married Lee Hudson Lorenz in Little Falls, Minnesota. Gail Lorenz is survived by Lee Lorenz, Lori Lorenz (daughter), Stuart (son) and Amy Lorenz (née Lorentz), Brian (son) and Paula Lorenz (née Brenny), 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 1 cousin. And is predeceased by Gene Inskeep (father), Ruth Inskeep (mother), Elmer Inskeep (uncle), Arthur Inskeep (paternal uncle), and Elmer Swallow (maternal uncle).
Gail requested no service. As per her wishes, she was cremated. She will be interred on Thursday April 16th at 1:00 pm at Saint John’s Episcopal Church Columbarium. Donations to the family via Stuart Lorenz or to her favorite charity, the World Wildlife Fund are welcome.
