Frederick "Freddy" Martinez Jr.

Frederick “Freddy” Martinez Jr., 59, passed away on July 3, 2025, in Sacramento, California.

Born on March 26, 1966, Frederick dedicated his life to service—first to his country and later to his community. He entered the U.S. Air Force in August 1984 and served until March 1988. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from December 1988 to January 1990.

On January 6, 1997, Freddy began his career with the California Department of Corrections. After graduating from the academy on February 14, 1997, he served at several state facilities including Salinas Valley State Prison and CCI Tehachapi. He played a key role in activating Kern Valley State Prison and was later promoted to North Kern State Prison as a Sargent.  He retired due to medical reasons in August 2013 after over 16 years of dedicated service.

Freddy is lovingly remembered by his mother, Ruthie Martinez; his brother Joseph (Shoshi) Martinez; and his sisters Yvette (Dereck) Goodwin and Reina Candelario along with seven nieces and nephews. He leaves behind six children: Cynthia Martinez (Adam Harper), Anthony Martinez, Dominic (Sierra) Martinez, Micaela (Zach) Thorn. Noah Martinez, and Maryellen Martinez. His legacy continues through his eleven grandchildren: Jaxon, Brandon, Anaya, Maylye, Bentley, Jayden, Lyrah, Brenden, Chanel, Gunner, and Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Martinez Sr., and his grandparents John and Cecilia Martinez, along with many others who held a special place in his life.

A viewing was held on Thursday, July 31st from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Funeral Home, 6509 Fruitridge Road in Sacramento. A funeral mass followed from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with interment at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
