Obituary

Mr. Frederick M. Lewis, age 97, of Amsterdam, passed away on January 22, 2026 and entered the beautiful gates of Heaven to meet his Lord, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville, after declining health for the past 6 months.

He was born March 22, 1928 in Amsterdam, the son of the late Frank and Mabel Mitchell Lewis. He attended Fultonville High School and worked on the Lewis dairy farm until he took ownership in 1964. Fred enjoyed working as a dairy farmer all his life.  He had a deep love and appreciation for farming. Fred also worked for Giuffre’s Bus Company for 25 years as a bus driver.

His Christian faith was a fundamental part of Fred’s life. He attended Adirondack Baptist Church since 2012. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Schenectady, served at as a Deacon for the Perth Bible Church and was also an elder for the Fort Hunter Methodist Church.

Fred loved his family and all of God’s creation.

On October 16, 1948, he married the former Mildred H. Briggs, who passed away December 10, 2012. Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen A Wright (Eugene) of Glenville, three sons: John P. Lewis, Timothy M. Lewis and Thomas M. Lewis (Liane), all of Amsterdam; five grandchildren, Stephen Wright (Lauren), Patti Kettler (Evan), Dr, Kevin Lewis (Molly), Mary Smith (Shane), Joshua Lewis (Casey), five great grandchildren, Meghan Lavenia, Lane Wright, Auggie Wright and Pierce Wright and Riley Smith.  He was also thankful for his faithful friends, Rich and Thursa.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30th at 12 pm at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville with the Rev. Tom Flander officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior, from 11 am to 12 pm at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in the spring at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville. In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may make contributions in Freds name to Mountain Valley Hospice of Gloversville or to Samaritan's Purse.org .  His family wishes to thank everyone at MVH for their love, care and spiritual support to Fred and his family, during his final days.
