Elizabeth “Betty” Stewart, 87, of Sun City Center, FL passed away on January 25, 2026.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 2:00PM in the Banquet Room of the Kings Point North Clubhouse in Sun City Center, FL. The family will receive friends and family during this time. A private interment will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by two daughters and one son in law, Debbie S. Pack of Sun City Center, FL and Sherri and Phillip G. Gregg of Chuckey, TN; two granddaughters, Merideth P. Duffin and grandson in law Bill of Largo FL and Lilly E. Gregg of Johnson City, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 56 years, Gilbert V. “Gib” Stewart, her beloved Son in law, Larry G. Pack, cherished granddaughter, Mallory E. Pack, her brother in law, David P. Stewart, and her sister in law Grace S. Stanton.
Betty was a devoted wife, Mother, and Grandmother and was an active supporter and participant in the lives and activities of all of her family members.
In addition to her immediate family, Elizabeth is also survived by her sister, Sue D. Etheridge of Roswell, GA, a brother in law, George C. Stewart of Columbus, GA, her sister in law and brother in law, Jane S, ad Don Machen of Auburn, AL, sister in law Marlene S. Stewart of Fayetteville, Ga and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Also surviving is her best friend of 61 years, Marjorie McCrea Behan of Maryville, TN.
Elizabeth was born July 15, 1938 in Sylacauga, AL, the first born of two daughters of the late Eric R. Dunn and Tiersie W. Dunn. On August 31, 1958 Betty and Gib were married in the First Methodist Church in Sylacauga and began their long life together.
Following High School Graduation in 1956, Betty attended Emory University, and later Auburn University. When her children were older, she completed her degree requirements at East Tennessee State University where she earned her BS degree in Education. She began teaching in 1969 in the Greeneville City School system and continued until her retirement in 1999. During many years of her teaching career, she served as girls physical education teacher and girls volleyball coach at Greeneville Middle School. Following her retirement she served as a volunteer at Laughlin Memorial Hospital as well as other volunteer activities, traveling, reading and enjoying her beach house in Panama City Beach with family and friends.
Mrs. Stewart was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greeneville, TN beginning in 1965 and previously the First Presbyterian Church in Aliceville, AL.
