IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Casper
Hergenreter
March 26, 1943 – July 20, 2025
Donald Casper Hergenreter, born March 26, 1943, in Sterling, Colorado, to Melgar and Florence Hergenreter, peacefully passed away July 20th, 2025. Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who touched the lives of many through his kindness and dedication.
Donald had a remarkable talent for making anything by hand out of wood – whether it was décor fixtures, outdoor décor, furniture, toys, and many other creative projects. His craftsmanship and ingenuity brought joy and beauty to many. He also enjoyed gardening and watching most sports but most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Donald was a proud graduate of Sterling High School, class of 1962. Upon graduating Donald began working for Marquette Trucking in Brush, Colorado. May 1966 he was drafted into the Army where he respectably served until his honorable discharge in 1968.
Following his military service, Donald was employed at Monfort Packing Plant from 1968 to 2000. He held various management positions where he demonstrated his loyalty and commitment throughout his career. He also worked for Plastic Arts Products before deciding to retire in 2002.
On May 9, 1970, Donald married the love of his life, Susan M. Cox. Together, they welcomed their first son, Troy, in March 1971, and three years later, their second son, Ryan, in August 1974. Donald was a loving father and wonderful bonus grandfather, cherished by his three grandchildren—Zakkary, Morgan (Evan), and Raymond; as well as his three great-grandchildren—Judson, Willow, and Jentrie.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Melgar and Florence Hergenreter; his in-laws, Alfread and Vera Cox; his brothers-in-law, Danny Cox and Jake Rudiger.
He is survived by his wife, Susan of Greeley, sons Troy (Bobbi) of Hudson, and Ryan of Evans; sisters, Carol (Mike) of Fort Worth, TX; Pam Rudiger of Greeley; Melinda Kapp of Evans; brother-in-law, Ron Cox of Berthoud; sister-in-law, Kathy (Larry) Lorenzini of Weldona; sister-in-law, Colleen (Marshall) Gilliland of Wiggins; his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was a staple at graduations, weddings, and family gatherings. Always there with a warm smile and a kind word.
The Celebration of Life will be held August 2nd at 2 p.m. at Adamson’s Funeral Home in Greeley, Colorado. Immediately following the service there will be a reception for all to join.
Donald’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his loving spirit and generous heart.
