Obituary

Donald Lee Dietz Sr. was born May 21, 1956, to David and Frieda Dietz at the Osteopathic Memorial Hospital in Greeley, CO. He departed this Earth on February 2nd, 2025, at the age of 68 in his home in Platteville, CO. He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents David and Frieda, his brother Charlie, and his Son Darrell.

He is survived by his sister Mary Henneck and brother-in-law Paul Henneck; His eldest son, Donald Lee Dietz Jr, his youngest son Travis Dietz (wife Kaylee), and daughter Megan Dietz. Along with his grandchildren, Ethan, Alyssa, Devon, Avari, Brandon, Cole, and Kinsley. As well as his great-grandson Ryker, with another on the way.

He attended grade school at Wyatt School District and then went on to Eaton High School. Don was part of the Eaton Basketball team and was a proud member of the FFA club. Donald met his wife while attending Eaton High School and they were married before he started his Senior year in 1974, and then he graduated in 1975. He also attended Aims Community College to be Automotive Technician for two years.

Three years after their marriage, Don and Barbra welcomed their first child, Donald Lee Dietz Jr. in December of 1977.

Throughout his years of schooling, he worked alongside his Father and Brother on the family Dairy Farm until 1983 and shortly began working at Luthers Tractor Company as a Mechanic until 1986.  Between that time, Don and Barbara welcomed their second child Darrell in 1985.

They moved to Platteville in 1987, and Don began work at Ulrich Farms. Don and Barbara had their third child, another boy named Travis. Tragically, a year and a half later they lost their second born Darrell due to a farm accident. In 1993 he and Barbara welcomed their daughter Megan.

Don was a very active Father when it came to his Children. He was a baseball coach to his son Travis for several years. He also taught his children how to fix farming equipment, trucks, and taught them all the value of hard work. Don enjoyed taking his children to baseball games, the movies, the local Platteville harvest days, and more.

But what Don cherished more than anything were his Grandchildren. He loved getting to see them whenever he could. He would light up whenever he was around them. Especially his newest Grand-daughter Kinsley. He'd come and visit her almost every single Saturday and couldn't stop talking about her to everyone he knew.

Don was an amazing Son, Brother, Uncle, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and of course a trusted friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
